Does a KDS eliminate order mistakes completely? 

 No — it removes the communication-handoff failure point, which is where most mistakes happen, but it can’t fix an order that was entered wrong at the register or kiosk to begin with. It’s a meaningful reduction, not a guarantee of zero errors. 

Is a KDS only useful for large kitchens? 

 No. Even a small kitchen with one or two cooks benefits, because the failure mode — a verbal or handwritten order getting garbled under pressure — happens at any size. It’s just more visible at high volume. 

How is a KDS different from just printing tickets?
